DigitalOcean is a cloud infrastructure provider aimed at developers; its core product is a Linux virtual machine called a Droplet. Droplets come in several types: Basic for simple applications, General Purpose for critical services, Memory-Optimized for RAM-heavy workloads, CPU-Optimized for compute-heavy tasks, Storage-Optimized for large datasets, and GPU for AI and graphics work. Bundled plans start at $4 per month, with price set by RAM, CPU, disk and bandwidth. Every Droplet includes fast SSDs, a public IPv4 address, free inbound bandwidth, at least 500 GiB of outbound transfer per month, monitoring and cloud firewalls. Datacentres run in San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Amsterdam, London, Frankfurt, Bangalore, Singapore and Sydney, and the region chosen affects latency directly. DigitalOcean promocodes are usually issued as credit for a new account and must be spent within a set window; existing customers rarely qualify.
